As a queer transperson who lives in an urban, low income environment, it is difficult to fully express my identity and do as I please without opening myself up to danger. My friend has used me as a subject for her Visual Anthropology class. Here is the finished product.

There’s a really frightening premium placed on masculinity in the projects, and really, in Black and Latino communities in general. There has to be things like this video in order to change how people of color engage in LGBT issues, and there has to be more of them. Like, a lot more.

I feel like we all discuss it, but be never really discuss the way a transformation like college or a significant move helps those of the LGBT community. I have frequently heard the phrase, “my college lesbian phase,” and I have to say I don’t really mind it. At least it gives someone a chance to express the big ball of confusion that we are as people. Kinda off topic, but I ditto Martin as well.

Wonder if I can use this to teach art+sexuality and activism. I would need some readings to accompany it tho. #rubschin.
